DESCRIPTION OF BOOKS
OUT OF STOCK
(NEW VERSION COMING THIS SUMMER)
1. The
Living Environment- Biology Lessons. (5th
Edition)
(Laminated covers, comb
binding: $24.95 each
This is a unique
book. It is especially
good for hard to reach students,
but has
separate
advanced sections for your regular groups.
Research shows
that connecting new information to previous
information that students
are
familiar with is essential
for good learning. With this in mind, each lesson in
this book
begins with an analogy or metaphor to give your
students an
understandable model that they can use as a link
to the
new biology concepts being taught.
The Main Ideas, Essential Questions, Objectives, and
Performance Indicators are life savers if you are doing
curriculum mapping or need to write comprehensive lesson
plans for your administrator. This is my #1 seller.

2. The Living Environment- L.E.A.F.
Study Guides
(Living
Environment Abbreviated Facts)
$14.95 Each (14 pages)
Great for
starting
the beginning of
each unit with the
"Big Picture" (whole to parts approach).
These
picture guides are also useful for:
1. Review at
the
end of each unit,
2. Helping absent students catch-up, or preparing
for the
final exam.
3. Each student package
consists of seven, double sided L.E.A.F.
Study Guides (14
pages total).
4. For each unit, all the "major understandings"
are condensed on
one side
of
each page for quick and easy reading (Scientific Inquiry
and Ecology use
two
sides).
5. The colored pages are laminated for
year-long protection, and are printed double sided.
6. Each page has room for a 3-hole punch for a
student's
notebook. The
pages are
similar
to the stiff,
quick review
college study sheets sold in bookstores.
7. In many
cases, the
language used
in
the "Major Understandings"
have been simplified for easier understanding.
These pages are laminated and
printed on both sides
(total of 14 pages/student)
The pages can be 3-hole punched as shown above, but are not
pre-punched.

BIO-SEQUENCE
CARDS
1 set = $16.95 (ex. 1 topic); 1 set unlaminated = $14.95 (save $3/set)
Capture your
student's attention with these
manipulatives.
-
These cards
will force students to read, analyze, sequence,
and
comprehend the concept being reviewed. This active learning
process is perfect for cooperative
group activities.
Bio-Sequence
Cards
offers you 20 topics to choose from (listed below).
Each pack of cards
will contain 6 different colored, laminated picture
cards for the particular topic
purchased. A pouch is
provided
for each
pack.
The pictures represent different
steps in
a process that the students
must learn. After you review
the basic process in class, the students
will be given the cards and asked
to arrange the cards on their desk to
show the proper
sequences of steps in the process being studied
(e.g. steps of
natural selection, mitosis, etc.). A walk around the
room
will allow you to see misconceptions and point out cards
that are not sequenced correctly (for students to try again).
Eventually, they will succeed. You will see
them debating with
each other about the proper sequence.
The cards are also
an excellent way to review each unit.
A great
thing
about the cards is that they are laminated. This
allows you to pick them up
at the end of one class and use
them
over in the next class.
One
master set for
each topic is all you will need for all your classes.
In addition, each set comes with reproducible
student
worksheet
that will allow the
students to record
what they
did and to answer
questions that will further
solidify their
understanding.
A Teacher Guide is provided.
One set will be enough for 12 individual students for 1 topic (or 24
students if teams of 2 students are
used). One set includes 12 packs
of cards with 6 cards on a topic in each pack.
A master Student Worksheet is included.
You will get laminated sheets with 6 cards per sheet that must be
cut-out. It should take students in your first class only a minute
to cut out the 6 cards. You will then be ready for all your classes.
The cards are randomized on the cut-out sheet.
The 2018 card
sets presently available are:
1. The Scientific Method
2. Life's Levels of
Organization
3. Diffusion
4. DNA Synthesis
5. Protein Synthesis
6. Natural Selection

BIO-BAGGIE ACTIVITIES
(1 package containing
5 baggie activities on same topic = $34.95)
The Bio-Baggie Activities
are self-contained, hands-on, manipulative-based lessons.
The activities involve mini-simulation labs,
model building, and games that simulate and/or demonstrate biology
structures
and/or processes such as diffusion, evolution, DNA
replication, etc. Each activity comes in a zip lock baggie that
contains all
the equipment needed for a team of two students.
Also included in the baggie are laminated instructions
and a re-usable, laminated data page* with a water soluble
flow pen*.
A separate master conclusion page, additional master
data page, and teacher answer key/guide are provided.
These activities
are meant to be used as short, hands-on, introductions to major
concepts. Most of the activities should take
only 15-25 minutes
to complete. The activities are re-usable as you proceed from
one class to the next. Just have the
students return everything
to the baggie and they are ready for the next class. These are
great time savers. They are also
perfect for students that have
missed class. All you need to do is hand them a baggie and they
are ready to go. One package
contains 5 baggie activities/topic
that can be used for 5 pairs of students (10 students).
Three baggie
topics are presently available. More activities will be available
in the future. Descriptions of the activities
presently available
include:
*(only
mini-simulation labs come with a Data page and flow pen)
1. DIFFUSION.
Students will simulate kinetic energy, random motion, membrane
selectivity, different molecular
concentrations, and demonstrate
how these processes relate to diffusion (see photo below).
Ex. Diffusion Baggie package
contains 5 labs like the one shown below.
(plus separate master conclusion
page, additional master data page, and teacher answer key/guide)
2. DNA, GENES,
CHROMATIN, AND CHROMOSOMES. Students will create "histone-DNA"
models to demonstrate the
relationship between DNA, genes, chromatin,
and chromosomes. Students will also demonstrate the histone difference
between active chromatin (with genes "on") and
non-active chromatin (with genes "off") . Finally, this
activity is a great
way to show how and why chromatin condenses
back and forth between chromosomes and "loose" chromatin
strands in
the nucelus.
3. CELL MODEL. Each
student team will create a cell, using plastic organelles, based on a
chart that describes what each
organelle looks like. The team will then
place the organelle over a specified (numbered) location on a laminated
outline of a
cell. Teachers can roam the room to see if
each student team was successful. A question page is included that will
require
the student to read a description of how cystic fibrosis
results from problems at the cellular level. Based on what they read,
the team will then assign a function to each organelle that is part of
the model.
Ex.
The Cell Model Baggie package contains 10 hard plastic organelles (very
tough and about the thicknes of a quarter) like
those shown above.
The plastic parts include the mitochondria, lysosome, vacuole, free
ribosomes, nucleus (with nucleolus),
golgi apparatus, cell membrane,
centrioles, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and smooth endoplasmic
reticulum.
The yellow cell body (approximately 6"x 7") is laminated.

The sales tax is applied to
items purchased . For example,
let's assume your county's
sales tax is 8% and you purchase one $30 item. Assuming you had an 8%
tax,
$30 + $0.99 shipping = $30.99 x 8% = $2.48
tax. Total = $30.99 + $2.48 = $33.47 total.
